Hello, I am Martin Jimenez and am on my fifth semester of school, this is my second semester here at Metro State. I retired from the Air Force 1 Jun 2007, after 26 years of service. I am married and have two kids who are now in high school. After my last three years of service I thought that I would like to be a teacher, so here I am.
I have always enjoyed working with kids, Right out of high school I spent a summer at a YWCA working at a daycare center, keeping the kids busy at daycare and as a swim instructor, I had a great time working the kids, the age group that I took care of was 6 to 11.
I entered the Air Force at the age of 21 hoping to be an electrician. Unfortunately it didn’t happen right away; my first job was on the flight line working on F-4s. Then two and a half years later an electrician’s position opened up. I spent twenty four years as Civil being Engineer, Electrician. Which included many different positions in the Air force, I started out as electricians’ helper, apprentice, journeyman, lead electrician in minor construction, fire alarm systems specialist, cathodic protection engineer, lightening protection systems specialist, electrical planner estimator. Shop Foreman, CE operations and maintenance superintendent, and chief of operations. The Air Force took me from California to Florida, Texas, Alaska, England and of course here Colorado.
During my Air Force career I always felt like there was more to do. I began coaching, when my son was old enough to play sports, he played basketball, flag football, and soccer. I was able to coach him from the age of 3 to the age of 13. At this time I decided that I want to continue to work with kids, and being an educator is what will allow me that chance.
